Types of Dental Implants

Dr.Connor Van - Happy Patient

Implant-Retained, Gum Supported

With this treatment, the overdenture rests directly on your gums and is retained by implants placed into your upper and/or lower jaw. The removable overdenture is secured to your implants through retentive attachments incorporated into the denture. Implant-retained tissue-supported dentures are currently recognized as the minimum standard of care for fully edentulous patients.

Bar-Retained, Implant Supported

With this treatment, the overdenture engages retentive attachments on a metal bar that connects to implants placed into your upper and/or lower jaw. The removable overdenture is secured to the bar through attachments fabricated directly into the denture.

Permanently Fixed, Implant Supported

With this treatment, the overdenture and bar are a one-piece framework secured using screws to implants placed into your upper and/or lower jaw. The overdenture is only removable by a Dental Clinician and is the most like natural teeth due to not having flanges and not resting on the gums.

Permanent Teeth in Orlando, Florida

Many restoration options are available when replacing missing teeth, such as dental implants, bridges, and dentures. You and your periodontist or dentist should evaluate the benefits and disadvantages of each treatment.
Dental implants are the optimal solution to missing teeth due to their aesthetic appearance, durability, and lifespan. However, a single implant with a crown will have additional costs, which can add up quickly for patients needing replacements for a full mouth of dental implants. Dentures are more affordable but have a less appealing reputation, considered inconvenient and uncomfortable due to the associated maintenance of removal and cleaning and the potential for gum and mouth irritation.

There is a new technique in tooth replacement utilizing the functionality of implants with the affordable cost of denture implants. "All-on-4 implants," "All On 6 Implants," and "Teeth Tomorrow" are all branded denture-supported implants using only 6 or 4 implants for an entire arch instead of the traditional 8, making this treatment more affordable and shortening recovery time.

How Do Permanent Teeth Restorations Work?

Like traditional implants, a titanium or zirconia implant is surgically placed into the jaw to integrate into the bone and serve as a functioning root for an artificial tooth. With implant-supported dentures, a minimal number of implants can support up to 16 teeth in an arch. Implant-supported restorations allow for the same aesthetics and durability at a fraction of the cost.

In the case of All on 4 Implants, the placement of the four implants is strategic to support the entire arch adequately. Your dentist will place two implants in the posterior of the mouth and two in the anterior of the mouth. The anterior or front implants are placed traditionally into the jaw in a straight manner. In contrast, the posterior implants are inserted at a 45-degree angle to avoid needing a bone graft. Bone grafts are typical for patients with insufficient bone density to support the posterior implants fully. The angled placement simplifies the procedure and reduces costs by eliminating the need for bone grafts of the rear jaw bone.

The procedure can vary based on the particular brand of entire arch implant-supported dentures you choose. However, to give you an idea of the process, we will review the step-by-step process for All-on-4s.

Step 1: The first step is to schedule an initial consultation so your dentist can assess whether you are suitable for implant-supported dentures or permanent teeth. Your dentist will use 3D imaging to get a picture of your jaw bone structure and decide your new teeth' aesthetic and functional properties, such as dental crown length and bite placement.

Step 2: Your dentist will prepare a computer simulation of your mouth using 3d imaging to determine the precise placement of each implant. A surgical template for fabrication may also be done at this step to serve as a guide.

Step 3: This step involves the surgery of inserting the four implants. This step includes additional treatments, such as tooth extraction and bone shaping. Then, the implants are capped with abutments and temporary teeth. At the same time, the jaw bone recovers and slowly begins to fuse with the implants. Diet during recovery must be carefully managed with soft foods to avoid any damage to the osseointegration process.

Step 4: Three months after their initial placement, the temporary teeth are removed and replaced with a permanently fixed denture. Recovery at this point should be relatively quick, with little discomfort.

New Teeth in One Day

One of the most significant benefits of implant-supported dentures is the ability to walk into your dental office needing a single or double arch and walk out with implant-supported dentures on the same day. Patients can leave with a fully reconstructed smile. However, remember the same-day benefits only reflect the placement of implants and temporaries, as there is no shortcut to osseointegration. This treatment is incomplete until the implants have fully fused to the bone, which can take several months, and the permanent restorations bond to the implants.

Your dental office must have 3D imaging technology to map your jawbone and fabricate temporary dentures for same-day treatment. Many dentists are updating their office technology, so confirm the tools are available for this procedure.

The dentist is awesome! I did my research and I can vouch for them. I felt like they really cared about me and wasn't just a customer. If I could give them a 6 stars if I could 🙏

Excellent support and professionalism at Greensboro Dental Implants. They even took care of my cavities and crowns while I was getting my implants. I most strongly recommend them for not only dental implants, but all your other dental needs.

I easily rate Greensboro dental Implants with 5 stars so far. I have been looking to get implants for several years but haven't been able to afford them. I set up a consultation on a 2 implant over denture and they went over my financing options. The customer service was excellent and the dentist put me at ease. I'm sure that I will love the results and smile like when I was a kid.
